Halloween is still a long way away, but it doesn’t matter because we all have our own scary stories to tell. We all have our favorite and our worst tale to tell, but everyone has their most fear-fueled story that freaked everyone out. As we grow older, we think that a ghost story is too childish to tell, but that did not stop Adam Ellis, a 21-year old cartoonist from New York, from sharing his terrifying experience of a demonic boy who is haunting his apartment dubbed as “Dear David”.
According to an article by Boredom Therapy, the story started when Adam started experiencing strange nightmares involving a boy with a disfigured head. Later on he dreamt he was in a library and a peculiar girl came up to speak with him.
“You’ve seen Dear David, haven’t you?” she asked him.
“He’s dead. He only appears at midnight, and you can ask him two questions if you [say] ‘Dear David’ first. Oh, and he’d murder anyone who asked a third question.”
The cartoonist was terrified by the appearances of these children in his dreams. After some time later, he dreamt of “Dear David.”
The ghostly child was sitting on a green rocking chair in his room. Adam remembered what the girl had warned him about from his last dream. The cartoonist asked the ghostly boy passed away. David revealed that he was “killed in a store after someone hit him over the head with a shelf.” Unfortunately, Adam asked a third question wishing to learn who killed him. Dear David went quiet and Adam suddenly woke up.
Was this ghost boy going to murder him as well?
Strange happenings began after Adam’s dream. It got worse when he transferred upstairs in the apartment there. For instance, every midnight Adam’s cats stared at his front door and kept meowing all throughout the evening.
Adam’s tweets went viral fast ever since he began sharing videos of the strange goings-on in his apartment. He even shared a photo of a statue he had visited in Japan claiming that Dear David followed him there because it clearly resembles his tormentor!
He did a lot of things to capture the strange things happening in his home and he even investigated a trap door leading up his ceiling – right above the stairs. He could always hear loud noises above of his apartment. What he found up there was a child’s leather shoe and an old marble.
The story ended when Adam’s tweets about Dear David lessened over the following weeks. He claimed that he hadn’t seen David in a while though he admitted that he is still getting weird feelings occasionally.
Many netizens debated over the validity of Adam’s ghost story. Some were skeptical over his claims while many continue to believe and follow the story of Dear David.
