Depression is a serious mental condition that affects many people throughout world. Even our favorite celebrities, who always appear to be ahead of things, might suffer from this debilitating problem. The gorgeous actress Jessy Mendiola has her fair share of bashers – and she admits that sometimes they strike a chord when they bash her.
In an article published by Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), Jessy admitted she once suffered from depression because of the nasty things people have said about her weight and appearance. She made this confession on an Instagram post which she shared on March 12.
Back in 2016, the actress was feeling happy and good about earning the title FHM’s Sexiest Woman. Despite this impressive achievement, she was constantly bombarded by negative comments from bashers about her body.
“When I won FHM’s sexiest woman in 2016, I thought… finally, people appreciate my efforts and my body.
“But I was wrong. I was bullied, body shamed with bashers calling me names like ‘pata, baboy, taba, etc.’”
The 25-year-old actress admitted that she began to listen to her bashers’ negative comments and started to believe that she wasn’t worthy of her newfound title.
“I felt really down and started losing my confidence.
“I loved myself then (big thighs, belly rolls and round face) but when people started pointing out my flaws, I started hating myself, at times even thinking I was a bad person for having ‘thunder thighs’.
“I stopped working out, I got depressed, binge ate my feelings off and started gaining more weight than I should.”
However, Jessy managed to snap out of her depression and “shifted perspective.” She began to love herself more and gained confidence by believing in her heart that she was sexy. The actress also wished to share her good vibes to her fellow “pata girls.”
“I may not be the sexiest for others, but I am sexy and beautiful for myself, that alone is enough.
“Shout out to every ‘pata girl’ out there, just keep going. Love yourself, love your body and it will love you back.
“TRUST ME. #thunderthighs #patagirl#pataislife #pataforevs”
Nowadays, Jessy Mendiola is ‘lucky’ to have a great support system in his positive and fun loving boyfriend Luis Manzano.
