The coroners from Lexington, Mississippi, were in for the shock of the century after a mistaken ‘dead man’ came back to life. The elderly Walter Williams almost crossed the threshold between life and death and found himself coming back to our world due to a faulty pacemaker.
Dubbed as the ‘dead man’ by various news outlets who picked up on his story, Williams was already zipped up inside a body bag in the morgue. During that time, the local coroners on-duty were already preparing to embalm his body, but they were frightened to death after hearing the ‘dead man’s’ pleas to get out.
Williams awoke from his deep sleep and was horrified to find out that he was placed inside a dark and cramped body bag. His first reaction was to kick and shout, which scared the coroners who were gathered around him. After struggling for a while, he managed to successfully let himself out of the body bag.
Hours prior to that unbelievable incident, the man was already pronounced legally dead. As a matter of fact, the coroner himself checked on Williams’ pulse that night around 9 p.m. However, the coroner claimed that Williams’ faulty pacemaker is the culprit. The pacemaker must have stopped working for a brief period of time and then started up again on its own.
Even the man’s family was at loss upon finding out the news. Eddie Hester, Williams’ nephew, was shocked because he himself witnessed how his uncle was zipped up inside the body bag:
“I stood there and watched them put him in a body bag and zip it up. That was at 10:30pm, and at 2:30am, my cousin called me and said “Not yet” and I said “what do you mean not yet? He said, “Daddy still here.”
In spite all of the confusion; his family members were glad to see their ‘fighter’ was alive. Right after waking up, Williams was sent to the hospital to be taken care of.
